There are some kitchen projects that require teamwork, and any cake requiring more than ten hours of manpower is high on that list. Here is a tip for tackling such projects. If you add the promise of “decadent chocolate bliss” to the task description it produces a rapid increase in the number of volunteers! The thought of chocolate sinks into their brain and hypnotizes them. For example, focus on this picture for 10 seconds:

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Right? Are you even listening? or are looking in your purse for a piece of chocolate?
So when Darla, Christine and The Nonnie sounded the call to make Emeril’s Chocolate Chocolate Pudding Cake with Chocolate Ganache, a dozen pairs of hands joined the coalition of the willing. Ready, set, BAKE!

Measuring, mixing, and stirring in the luv.

And once the cake was in the oven it was onto the fillings. First pudding…

… then ganache! (This ganache took a village but was SO worth it.)

But that wasn’t enough to keep these baking divas out of the sugar bowl. The cookbooks come out and the gloved came off. Soon there were warm cranberry scones, cheesecake (!), pumpkin bread, petit fours, chocolate decorations, and pink meringues (no egg white left behind). It was a pure bakery explosion.

Time for one last picture of the sweet assortment.

Then we could wait no longer. The chocolate cake was assembled (we may or may not have waited for everyhting to cool and set), decorated, and then the whole outrageous thing as sliced and devoured. Darla did the honors or slicing in. Yum.

Special thanks to Christine for letting us take over the kitchen and then for documenting the action!

I loved the tiny dresses so much, that these tiny cakes soon followed. Here is the test batch. The thing about decorated cookies is getting a dough that doesn’t spread too much when you cook it. Clearly, this wasn’t it. But they still looked cute and were totally munchable.

I harbor a secret passion for sugar cookies. Cake is awesome– clearly, I love it. However, if you are going to curl up on a couch, skip down the street, or otherwise engage in a non-fork-friendly snacking activity the cookie the way to go. Plus, there is no evidence left behind. [Yeah, I'm looking at YOU with that paper cupcake wrapper.] I also think that cookies get a bad wrap in the elegant party food arena. Ever since the cupcake stepped up to high society, the cookies have fallen behind.
So here are some tiny cookies that are elegant, colorful, easy, and fun. Just found these cutters that have matching cookies and mini cookies. Love it!

Big (5 inch) or Little (3 inch)
I may have gotten a little carried away making tiny dresses. They are sugar cookies with chocolate fondant on top. Yummy too.

Taylor requested a magician for her 5th birthday. The trick her mom was most interested in seeing was one where the correct cake appeared at the party- on time. This family has been plagued by cakewrecks, so I was very relieved to drop it off in one piece before the guests arrived. Nevermind that the birthday girl lopped off a tiny corner with a power rangers sword soon after! It’s her birthday and HER cake!!
The square tiers were decorated with stars and card suites with little bit of red sparkle. The stars are made from fondant and wooden skewers (to match the candles) and were put in place by the talented birthday girl. My favorite part is the bunny peeking out of the magician’s hat which was made from modelling chocolate.

The theme of this party was “Manic Organic” with a room full of overflowing bouquets and greenery. The cake picks up the floral theme and wraps in the birthday girl’s love of chocolate. Vanilla buttercream covers a chocolate ganache filled cake and is decorated with chocolate flowers. The 30 is made from modelling chocolate and echoed the tall skinny candles.
I love this photo because in the mirror you can almost see a 360 view of the cake and the bouquet next to it.
